After attending Swampscott High School, where one of his classmates was ESPN's Todd McShay, Portnoy graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in education. Portnoy grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, the son of Michael, a lawyer, and Linda, a high school teacher. Self-styled as 'El Presidente', Portnoy is the founder and owner of sports and popular culture company Barstool Sports.
